The VIII Energy Week, hosted in Montevideo, Uruguay, stands as a crucial event for the region. Focusing on the challenges and strengths of the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. The conference was well attended by authorities and international organizations, such as the former President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet.

Panel: “Gender and Energy: Results of gender equity policies and strategies"
"Energy is a factor in human development, which can either worsen or improve people's standard of living, it is capable of impacting on educational, social and economic changes that allow us to achieve gender equality", these were some of the words of the opening speech of the former President of Chile and first Director of UN Women, Michelle Bachelet, during her intervention in the panel "Gender and Energy: Results of gender equity policies and strategies".
The former president once again highlighted her position on gender equity and the involvement of women in the STEM sector, especially in the energy sector, and cited several studies to reinforce her position; "According to the United Nations, the global domestic product would increase 26% by 2025 if women were incorporated into the labor market in the same way as men. In Latin America and the Caribbean, women represent 60% of the university graduates. In Chile's case, we have 19% of female participation in STEM careers," a number that calls for a change in favor of a global situation.
During the week, a commission dedicated to the topic "OLADE's Gender and Energy Commission aims to establish regional policies to make gender equality in energy a reality. OLADE, as a regional reference, plays and will continue to play a very important role in the way that we define common standards, in the way we work together," added Bachelet.
When it came to Suncast's representative's turn, she emphasized the importance of moving forward not only in the energy sector, but also in decision-making. "We are putting 50% on the table that corresponds to women, 50% of the ideas, of the future of businesses, 50% of the ability to perform. It's as if we want to win a world cup with only half of the team on the field," she said.
