As of August for wind and October-November for solar energy sector, the Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional established the requirement of a technological change, requesting the submission of forecasts via API and SFTP for more efficient data management.

Santiago, Chile, 29th of January of 2025.- A referent for the digitalization of the Chilean renewable energy industry and also the pioneer in the compliance and implementation of the new API system for the submission of photovoltaic and wind power plants.   Suncast, the company that provides variable renewable energies with Artificial Intelligence, is entirely aligned with the current regulations and modernization of the data reception system of the Chilean electrical system.

Within the past year, the Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional (CEN) has introduced new requirements to optimize the management of renewable energy generation forecasting data, focusing on the compulsory submission formats provided by companies.   The purpose of this change is to improve efficiency and transparency in the information exchange, ensuring a more agile and precise management of the Sistema Eléctrico Nacional.

“At Suncast, we are committed to innovation and excellence. We completed the implementation of API for forecasting submissions before the required deadline, and it is another example of our efforts to be at the forefront of technology and offer efficient and secure solutions to our clients. It makes us proud to comply with the highest standards and on time, contributing to the optimization of the Sistema Eléctrico Nacional”, said Constanza Levicán, CEO and founder of Suncast.
In the same order of ideas, Suncast’s CTO, Pedro Correa, highlighted the importance of direct connections with CEN’s data platforms and the excellent results in updating energy forecasts. “The integration guarantees automated and reliable submission of real-time forecasts required by current regulations, as well as the retrieval of data from power plants connected to the Sistema Eléctrico Nacional”.

In this regard, the Chilean technology company adhered to and even anticipated compliance with different regulations, making the submission via API an innovative and agile tool. The submission and reception of forecasting data are sped up by API, improving the efficiency and quality of information, reducing transmission time..

Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional’s New Forecasting Platform

CEN’s new guidelines, which were implemented in August for wind and in October and November for the solar sector, indicate that forecasts must be sent to the New Forecasting Platform using the new API and delivered at specific schedules. The procedures set by Suncast were already aligned with the requirements, which eased their compliance. Additionally, Suncast provides wind energy forecasting services to over 50% of the national wind market, sending the following information every day of the year:

  • Wind Forecasting-12h: hourly.

  • Wind Forecasting -48h: every day at 06:00 and 18:00.

  • Wind Forecasting -240h: at 08:00, with 240 readings from 00:00 the following day.

This implementation ensures that the company, which manages 40 utility-scale power plants in Chile covering a total of 4,975 MW of installed capacity in clean energy, comply with the set deadlines and continues its commitment to submit high-quality data for the Chilean electricity market processes.
